Football


CLA plays 8 man tackle football in the California Christian Independent Football League. CCIF is made up of teams from San Diego, Riverside and Kern County. The season consists of 7 games, one against each team in the league. There is a two week playoff following the regular season. The playoff consists of a two divisions, Gold and Silver. The four teams with the best record are in the Gold Division. The remaining four teams are in the Silver Division. First round of the playoffs is October 24. Both the Silver and Gold Division championship games will be played at Crossroads Christian on October 31.

Safety


CLA believes strongly in investing in coaching techniques and equipment to make playing football as safe as possible.

Helmets

CLA has purchased the highest rated helmet according to the well respected Virginia Tech Football Helmet Review. The Schutt Vengeance VTD II

Practice Caps

CLA will utilize The Guardian Cap during practice. The Guardian Cap is a cover placed over the normal football helmet to reduce impact. The soft shell helmet cover absorbs extra impact.

Seahawks Tackling

The CLA football coaching staff has reviewed the most widely recommended methods for teaching tackling. The staff has decided to focus on teaching the Seahawks Tackling method. This method allows for a physical presence on the field while minimizing head impact for both the offensive and defensive player.

Coach Andy

Head Coach – Andy Schnoebelen

This is Coach Schnoebelen’s third year with CLA football. Coach Schnoebelen brings 8 years of football coaching experience to the staff. 7 years at Pop Warner, with the last 4 of those years as Head Coach. Coach Schnoebelen was an assistant last year the CLA Eagles, helping out with conditioning, offensive and defensive lines and assisting on special teams. Coach Schnoebelen has been married for 27 years, with 4 children, attends Cornerstone Church of Escondido and has been a part of CLA for the last 8 years.

Offensive Coordinator – Jay Luce

This is Coach Luce’s third year with CLA football. The last 2 years, Coach Luce has been the offensive coordinator. Coach Luce brings many years of experience coaching 11 man tackle football at Escondido Charter High School. Coach Luce attends New Life Presbyterian Church of Escondido where he has served as a youth leader for 15 years. He is also the Head Coach for the CLA Varsity Girls Basketball team.

Defensive Coordinator – Coach Vava

This is Coach Selvaggio’s third year with CLA football. Coach Selvaggio is continuing as Defensive Coordinator from last year’s team. Coach Selvaggio has been married for 17 years, with 2 boys (6th and 10th grade), attends North Coast Church in Vista, part of CLA for 3 years. He coached varsity baseball and has assisted 14U basketball with CLA.
